China probes rail minister: state media

by Staff Writers
Beijing (AFP) Feb 12, 2011
China's rail minister is under investigation for alleged "severe violation of discipline", the state Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.

The ruling Communist party's central commission, which is responsible for disciplinary matters, has not provided details on the allegations against Liu Zhijun, who is overseeing an ambitious development of the Chinese rail network.

The country's 7,531-kilometre (4,679-mile) high-speed network is expected to almost double by 2012 with a 120-billion-dollar investment announced last year.
