Updated communications systems for China's Su-35 fighters
by Ryan Maass
Washington (UPI) Nov 25, 2015

Russian state contractor United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation, part of the state-owned Rostec Corporation, will deliver communication systems to China for its Russian-made Sukhoi Su-35 multirole fighters.

The delivery is part of an agreement between Russian and Chinese governments for China's purchase of Su-35 multirole fighter jets. UIMC will supply the modernized S-108 communication system, which will allow the aircraft to relay signals to ground control operators to perform combat missions.

"Russia and China signed a major contract for the purchase of the Su-35 multipurpose fighters. The S-108 updated communications system, which is part of the fighter's equipment, facilitates the inclusion of these aircraft in automated military control systems," UIMC Deputy CEO Sergey Skokov said in a statement. "While working in anti-interference mode, the system facilitates information exchange between all communication systems used by the Air Force."

UIMC officials add the updated communication system features a greater radio bandwidth, larger number of data links, greater accuracy in receiving messages, and reduced delivery time.

The Sukhoi Su-35 aims to employ fifth-generation technologies in combination with a fourth-generation fighter jet, including its information management system designed to integrate functional, logical, and informational subsystem into a single system. The fighter is armed with both air-to-air and air-to-surface guided missiles.

UIMC will also provide Chinese military airfield with the NKVS-27 ground-based communication system, designed to communicate with frontline aircraft.
