United Technologies Aerospace Systems awarded $2.5B for spare parts

United Technologies Aerospace Systems was awarded $2.5 billion for aviation-related spare parts and related services.

The deal, announced Wednesday by the Department of Defense, derives from the aviation sector of the Defense Logistics Agency and taps United Technologies Aerospace Systems for a five-year base contract with one five-year option period.

The contract will expire on April 30, 2028.

The Pentagon says that United Technologies Aerospace Systems being the sole contract provider is allowed under Federal Acquisition Regulation 6.302-1, which states that "only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements."

Work locations on the contract will occur in Connecticut, Ohio, California, North Carolina, Arizona, New York, Minnesota, Vermont and Iowa.

The contract will benefit all four branches of the armed forces, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard, which falls under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security.

The $2.5 billion obligated to United Technologies Aerospace Systems will come out of fiscal 2018 through 2028 defense working capital funds, the Pentagon said.

Bell to support Marine Corps' Viper helicopters

Bell Helicopter has been awarded a contract for additional services in support of the AH-1Z helicopter for the U.S. Marine Corps.
