Trump touts 'America First energy policy' at Louisiana natural gas facility
by Staff Writers
Washington DC (UPI) May 15, 2019

.

President Donald Trump traveled to Louisiana on Tuesday to promote energy infrastructure and economic growth.

Trump touted his "America First energy policy" including efforts to boost exports of liquefied natural gas exports, as he delivered a speech to workers at Cameron LNG facility in Cameron Parish. "Under my administration we have ended the war on American energy and ended the economic assault on our wonderful energy workers," Trump said.

Trump toured the facility owned by California-based Sempra energy, which announced Tuesday morning that it had begun production of liquefied natural gas.

He said the facility had sold out its supply of liquefied natural gas for 20 years.

"Workers like you are lighting up our homes powering our factories and reducing costs for hard-working American families," Trump said.

The president cited the production of liquefied natural gas for increasing U.S. jobs and expressed his commitment to prevent production of clean energy to foreign nations. He boasted that his decision to exit the Paris Agreement on climate change saved the country money and stated he was replacing the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan and refocusing the agency on its "core mission" of ensuring clean air and water.

"We should be producing energy at home, not enriching foreign adversaries abroad," Trump said.

Trump also criticized the Green New Deal - crafted by Democrats Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Edward Markey - as a "hoax" that would cost Americans jobs.

After lambasting a number of 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls, Trump vowed to build a new bridge at the site of the Calcasieu Bridge on Interstate 10 if he is re-elected.

"If we win this election, we're giving you a brand new I-10 bridge," Trump said. "We're gonna have it all set, ready to go day one, right after the election," he said.

Prior to Trump's speech, four motorcycle police officers were involved in a traffic incident as the president's motorcade left the airport in Louisiana Tuesday morning and three were hospitalized, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said.

"Today, three motorcycle officers from local law enforcement were injured in an accident while traveling with the president's motorcade," Sanders said. "All three are being treated for injuries at a nearby hospital and are in stable condition."
