Thales UK is supplying sighting systems to General Dynamics for the production phase of the British military's Scout Specialist Vehicles.

The $195 million contract covers 245 vehicle sets, to be delivered between 2016 and 2021.

Each set consists of a primary sight, local situational awareness camera system and smoke dispenser for the SV variant of the Scout.

Thales said it will also provide an additional 344 local situational awareness sets for other versions of the vehicle. The systems will be built at a Thales facility in Scotland.

"Our sighting systems for the Scout SV vehicle will provide the UK Ministry of Defense with a step-change in its vehicle reconnaissance and surveillance capability and will greatly enhance the prospect of mission success and survivability on the battlefield," said Thales Chief Executive Officer Victor Chavez. "The contract underlines our position as the UK MOD's sighting system supplier of choice and is a tribute to the innovation and skill of our employees in Glasgow."
