Tecta Solar recently completed the installation of a 1,869 kWp rooftop photovoltaic solar facility in Whitinsville, Mass. This is the largest rooftop system installed in Massachusetts, and the third-largest system of any type in Massachusetts to date.

In its first year of operation, the system is projected to generate 2,178 MWh of energy, which is equivalent to powering 272 average Massachusetts homes for a year.

Tecta Solar managed every phase of the project, including design, engineering, procurement, construction, SREC registration and commissioning.

Prior to the installation of the solar facility, Tecta America's Roofing Division repaired and replaced the roof so a Total System Warranty could be issued to the owner, including all roof and solar work. All of the roof and solar work was completed by Tecta America's local workforce based out of Billerica, Mass.

Brett Chapman, Tecta Solar's New England General Manager, stated, "We are very proud of the business we have built up here in New England. Due to our dedication to customer service and our ability to offer turnkey roofing and solar solutions with our own workforce, Tecta Solar is the number one solar company in Massachusetts. We have contributed over 34 green jobs to the local economy in the past year. We look to continue that growth into the future."

Tecta Solar has installed more than 5,600 kWp of solar photovoltaic systems in Massachusetts, including the first commercial solar photovoltaic system to be qualified for the Massachusetts RPS Solar Carve-Out.

By capacity, Tecta Solar has installed over 15 percent of all commercial solar carve-out projects in Massachusetts.

A new dimension for solar energy
Boston MA (SPX) Mar 28, 2012
Intensive research around the world has focused on improving the performance of solar photovoltaic cells and bringing down their cost. But very little attention has been paid to the best ways of arranging those cells, which are typically placed flat on a rooftop or other surface, or sometimes attached to motorized structures that keep the cells pointed toward the sun as it crosses the sky. ... read more
