Solyndra has announced the completion of a 370kWp rooftop solar system on a well known architectural landmark owned by Finpiemonte Partecipazioni, S.p.A., a holding of mixed private/public enterprises in the Piemonte region of Italy. The building holds the Palaexpo Jewelry Company.

The system was designed and built under a power purchase agreement (PPA) in conjunction with ARDEA Energia S.r.l., an energy company and EGEA, the local utility company. The system has been nominated as one of the best Italian rooftop PV installations for 2010.

"While generating substantial power from the sun, the Solyndra system also complements the fine architecture of our building in several important ways," said Dr. Paolo Marchioni of Finpiemonte.

"The lightweight system did not require additional engineering or penetrations of the roof. This protected the integrity of the building and the quick installation meant there was minimal disruption to our business."

"The Solyndra system allowed more power peak density than competitive systems, and therefore creates a greater revenue stream from this powerful rooftop power plant," said Dr. Pierpaolo Carini, CEO of ARDEA.

"We were pleased with how quickly and easily the system could be implemented and it is already generating power."

The 370kWp system consists of approximately 2030 panels and took approximately three weeks to install. It was installed by Gruppo Caraglio, a local energy performance contractor (EPC) selected by ARDEA Energia.

"This project is a great example of why Italy continues to be a strong market for Solyndra systems," said Clemens Jargon, Solyndra's president of EMEA and managing director, Solyndra GmbH.

"Working closely with ARDEA Energia and the local utilities, we were able to design a system that generates the most possible power from their rooftop to take advantage of government incentives, while not requiring re-engineering of this well known building."
