An electricity provider to North Dakota and Minnesota said it completed construction on a 345-kilovolt transmission line, one of the largest in the region.

The transmission line marks a collaboration between Minnkota and Minnesota Power and marries what North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven said are the renewable and traditional energy markets through the prevalence of wind power in the area.

"This project is a good example of the energy infrastructure investments that we need to build a brighter energy future for our state and our nation," the Republican senator said.

Minnkota Power Cooperative, which services North Dakota and Minnesota, announced the completion of the 250-mile line to provide power for the Red River Valley.

Minnokota's project cost $353 million to complete and is the largest transmission project built in the region's history.
