Russia test fires cruise missiles: reports

Russian Tupolev bombers Thursday successfully test-fired cruise missiles in the country's far-northern Vorkuta region, local news agencies Interfax and Ria Novosti reported.

"The last two bombers returned a few minutes ago to their permanent base after launching the missiles. In all six long-range bombers took part," in the exercise, said air force spokesman Vladimir Drik.

Tu-95Mc and Tu-160 bombers were involved in the mission, "the first time missiles of this type were fired this year by long-range bombers," he said.

Analysis: China exports new SAM missile

China has put its HQ-9 surface-to-air missile on the export market under the name FD-2000. Brochures advertising China's latest missile appeared at the most recent African Ground Force Equipment Exhibition in Cape Town, South Africa, and also at the International Defense Exhibition in Karachi, Pakistan, last November.
