Eurenco continues explosives deal with Saab
Massy, France (UPI) Jun 14, 2016 - Energetic materials manufacturer Eurenco has renewed its partnership with Saab for the supply of explosives and propellants for anti-tank weapons.

Saab's AT4 and Carl Gustaf 84mm munitions are covered under the partnership extension. The transfer of propellant technologies to a key export customer of SAAB for the Carl Gustaf system is also included, the company said.

The explosives and propellants for Saab are manufactured at Eurenco's plant in Sweden.

Eurenco is headquartered in France. Its propellant range for anti-tank systems include double-base compositions in flakes or strips, as well as rocket motor propellants in rods or tubes. Eurenco also manufactures and markets explosive compositions for high-explosive anti-tank charges and other charges.

Additional details of of the renewed partnership with Saab were not disclosed.

Rheinmetall unveiled its new Lynx infantry fighting vehicle on Tuesday at the Eurosatory 2016 exhibition in the French capital.

The Lynx comes in two tracked variants, which can be configured for command and control, armored reconnaissance, repair and recovery, and ambulance operations.

The first is the Lynx KF31 that can seat six soldiers in addition to its three-person crew. The other is the KF41, which can carry eight passengers.

"Lynx is an advanced new modular family of vehicles that offers our customers the highest levels of survivability, mobility, lethality and capacity while utilizing proven technologies to deliver a compelling value proposition for our global customers," Ben Hudson, Head of Rheinmetall's Vehicle Systems Division. "Lynx delivers the capabilities that will allow our customers to fight, survive and win on the battlefields of today and tomorrow."

The Lynx features a Rheinmetall LANCE turret armed with a stabilized, externally powered, airburst-capable automatic cannon -- in either 30mm or 35mm -- for engaging targets as much as 3,280 yards distant. The vehicles can also be armed with an anti-tank guided missile launcher and a secondary weapon station linked to the main optics.

With the diesel engine mounted in the forward section and a modular armor concept, the vehicle architecture offers a high degree of protection.

The commander and gunner have access to a stabilized electro-optical sight system, a digital TV-IR optical system with an integrated laser range finder and fire control computer.

Rheinmetall said the Lynx can handle gradients of up to 60 degrees and lateral inclines of more than 30 degrees.

Raytheon wins Australian gun sight contract
Washington (UPI) Jun 14, 2016 - Raytheon has been selected by Australia's Department of Defense for a $54 million weapon sight contract, the company announced Tuesday.

Raytheon's ELCAN Optical Technologies division will provide the Specter DR 1-4x dual role weapon sight under the contract, which was awarded following an open competition, the company said.

The new sight will replace Australia's standard 1.5X magnified sight on the new Enhanced F88 rifle, Raytheon said.

The sight's dual magnification provides long-range targeting and short-term rapid aiming.

ELCAN will begin delivery of the sights later this year.

The sight features eye relief and bore sighting that remains constant between magnifications, as well as 70mm eye relief and wide viewing angles for rapid "both eyes open" target acquisition.
