Venezuela receives Chinese-made Hongdu KW-8 aircraft
Caracas, Venezuela (UPI) Apr 11, 2016 - Venezuela's air force has taken delivery of nine trainer/light attack Hongdu KW-8 jet aircraft from China.

The delivery took place at the "El Libertador" airbase in Aragua state with Minister of People's Power for Defense, Vladimir Padrino Lopez in attendance.

The Hongdu KW-8 has a maximum speed of 498 miles per hour, a range of 1,398 miles and a service ceiling of 42,651 feet. Armaments for the plane include a 23mm cannon, plus bombs, missiles and rockets.

The Venezuelan Air Force said the aircraft will reinforce its Fighter Group No. 12, based in Lara state, and the Special Air Operations Group No.15 based in Zulia state.

In addition to training, the aircraft will be used in operations against organized crime and drug trafficking, the air force said.

Rheinmetall of Germany says it will design, build and supply a complete suite of training equipment for Brazil's KC-390 military transporter.

The deal was clinched Monday when Rheinmetall and aircraft manufacturer Embraer signed a framework agreement which should mean about $113.9 million in sales to Rheinmetall over the next 10 to 15 years.

"Rheinmetall is honored to have been selected as the training devices partner in the KC-390 program," said Ulrich Sasse, president of Rheinmetall's Simulation and Training business unit. "It's exciting to be able to demonstrate our commitment to Embraer and the entire KC-390 program by providing proven, state-of-the-art simulation technology from Germany."

The KC-390 is a tactical transport aircraft and aerial refueler. The Brazilian Air Force has ordered 28 of the aircraft. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2018.

Under the agreement, Rheinmetall's Simulation and Training business unit will design, manufacture, deliver and support all training devices for the plane, including training devices for cargo handling procedures, maintenance, flight and mission systems. Full mission and flight simulators are also included.
