Raytheon wins $255 million contract for USS Lyndon B. Johnson
by Ryan Maass
Washington (UPI) Jan 4, 2016

Raytheon has received a $255 million contract to procure mission systems equipment for the future USS Lyndon B. Johnson.

The contract, worth up to $349 million if all options are exercised, supports the construction of the third and final vessel in the Zumwalt class, designed to be next-generation multi-mission littoral combat ships.

According to the Navy, the new class of destroyers will be able to triple naval surface fire coverage, while also tripling anti-ship cruise missile capabilities. The first of the three planned vessels, USS Zumwalt, departed its port to begin its first sea trials in December 2015.

Work on the contract will be performed in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Virginia, and other locations in the United States and Canada.
