Raytheon to produce additional Air and Missile Defense Radar equipment

Raytheon has received a $110 million contract modification to produce additional material for the U.S. Navy's Air and Missile Defense Radar Program.

The modification exercises an option for low-rate initial production for the S-Band Radar and Radar Suite Controller. Work is scheduled to be performed in Sadbury, Mass. The U.S. Department of Defense expects the work be complete by December.

All funds were obligated at the time of the contract modification award. The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., is listed as the contracting activity.

Raytheon's Air and Missile Defense Radar, or AMDR, is marketed as the U.S. Navy's next-generation integrated radar for naval platforms. The company says the equipment improves a vessel's ability to detect air and surface threats, including ballistic missile attacks.

The S-band radar covered in the recent contract modification can be equipped with X-band radar capabilities for horizontal searches and the Radar Suite Controller, a new component designed to manage radar resources and integrate with a ship's combat management system.
