Raytheon awarded $22.1M for Next Generation Jammer support
by James Laporta
Washington (UPI) Nov 3, 2017

The Department of Defense on Thursday announced that Raytheon Co. has been awarded a $22.1 million contract for hardware and software requirements to support the Navy's Next Generation Jammer.

The products provided by Raytheon will be installed on the Ground Power and Cooling System in support of the Next Generation Jammer. The modification was selected by the U.S. Navy in 2013 to replace the more than 40-year-old ALQ-99 jammer systems on the Boeing EA-18G Growler, an aircraft specifically designed for electronic warfare.

In 2016, the U.S. Navy awarded Raytheon a $1 billion contract to develop and manufacture the Next Generation Jammer, according to Raytheon and Defense Department records.

The Ground Power and Cooling System consists of "software changes to the pod operational flight program along with the following hardware; five ground power carts, five ground power kits, five ground cooling carts, five ground cooling kits, 12 common electronic unit connector kits, and four test access module kits," the Department of Defense said.

Over 95 percent of the contract work will be performed in El Segundo, Calif., and is expected to be completed in December 2019. No funds are being obligated to Raytheon at time of award.
