Northrop Grumman Wins 239 Million USD USAF Weather Agency Contract

Several systems fall under the SEMS umbrella, including the Global Theater Weather Analysis and Prediction System and the Joint Air Force and Army Weather Information System, which provide timely atmospheric data to warfighters making critical operational decisions; the Space Weather Analysis and Forecast System, which delivers space weather forecasts for global Defense Department space operations; and the Cloud Depiction and Forecast System II, used for mission planning, current operations, and post strike analysis.

Northrop Grumman has been awarded the U.S. Air Force Weather Agency Systems Engineering, Management and Sustainment (SEMS) II contract to increase effectiveness, reliability, and performance, while reducing total cost of ownership for a variety of classified and unclassified Air Force weather systems.

The $239 million cost-plus-award-fee contract includes a one-year base and four option years.

SEMS II systems deliver accurate, relevant, and timely space and terrestrial environmental information anywhere in the world, enabling commanders at all levels to anticipate battlespace conditions and improving critical decision making. The program supports the Air Force Weather Agency's mission to maximize air, space, cyberspace, and land power by enabling decision makers to exploit relevant environmental information across the full spectrum of warfare.

As part of the SEMS II contract, Northrop Grumman provides systems engineering, development, and sustainment; continuous help desk and operations control services; information assurance; and integrated logistics.

"The SEMS II program provides systems support for the Air Force Weather Agency, the largest supplier of weather data for military users worldwide in support of frontline combat operations, mission planning, and routine flight operations," said Brian Balm, Northrop Grumman's SEMS II program manager.

"Northrop Grumman has partnered with the Air Force Weather Agency on the SEMS program since its inception in 2002 and is honored to continue supporting the Air Force Weather Agency's goal of providing ever more timely, accurate and reliable atmospheric information to the warfighter."
