Solar Monkey has announced plans to expand its strategic focus in the growing solar energy market for educational institutions, colleges and universities. As part of this initiative the company announced the hiring of veteran educator, Frank S. Tom, as Director of Educational Sales.

Matthew McCullough, Solar Monkey's President and CEO said, "There are challenges unique to the educational market that differ markedly from our commercial business. With colleges and universities we must often be mindful of historic buildings and their legacy. Architectural building plans for older buildings frequently no longer exist. In addition, work hours are limited so as not to interfere with classes. These are just some of the special challenges we face, and that Solar Monkey is uniquely qualified to address."

Mr. McCullough continued, "In looking to fill the role of Director of Educational Sales, we knew we needed someone that understood from experience the importance of greening educational institutions along with the desire to save budget monies while hedging against future energy price increases. Frank Tom is just such an individual, and he brings an outstanding track record of executive leadership. He's a highly respected expert in the educational field and his depth of experience will be a key asset as Solar Monkey advances its initiative to pursue strategic sales partnerships in this market."

Mr. Tom has over two decades experience as a K-12 school administrator. In addition he served for five years as the Assistant Superintendent of High Schools for the San Francisco Unified School District. Most recently he was Superintendent of schools in Lafayette, California, and retired from there in June of this year.

Mr. Tom stated, "I am delighted to be joining Solar Monkey at this pivotal time both for the company and the solar energy industry. Before retiring earlier this year I strongly supported the concept of greening our schools and generating cost savings for the district. We evaluated many proposals from solar companies and Solar Monkey had by far the most competitive program that addressed the needs of the district. I was very impressed with Solar Monkey's professionalism and best practices. Given my passion to stay connected with schools, I jumped at the chance to take a leadership role in promoting the use of solar energy in schools and colleges."
