Lockheed tapped for support of developmental test F-35 aircraft

Lockheed Martin was awarded a contract from the Department of Defense for services in support of F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.

The contract deal from Naval Air Systems Command is valued at more than $46.5 million under the terms of a cost-plus-fixed-fee delivery order contract and enables Lockheed Martin to provide "non-recurring engineering, development of design documentation, and the creation of modification instructions," in support of the F-35 aircraft, according to the Pentagon.

The services are specifically to extend the life and maintain currency of the developmental test F-35 aircraft.

The F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft is a fifth-generation stealth fighter slated to replace most of the U.S. fighter fleet, as well as those of allied foreign air forces, over the next few decades.

Work on the contract will occur in Fort Worth, Texas, and is expected to be complete in June 2019.

The total cumulative value of the contract will be obligated to Lockheed Martin at time of award from multiple Department of Defense and non-Pentagon participant funds, the Pentagon said.
