Lockheed contracted for design, development on Israeli F-35 program

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract to support development on Israel's F-35 Lightning II program.

The deal, announced Friday by the Department of Defense, is valued at more than $147.9 million on a modification on a previous award under the terms of a cost-plus-incentive-fee contract.

Under the agreement, Lockheed Martin will provide "Israel-unique weapons certification, modification kits and electronic warfare analysis" for the Lockheed Martin-manufactured F-35 Lightning II, a fifth-generation, joint-strike fighter that is designed for both ground and air superiority missions.

The contract is classified as a foreign military sale and supports Israel's system design and development of the F-35 in order to achieve 3F+ fleet capabilities.

Work on the contract will occur in several locations around the United States and England, and is expected to be complete by December 2021.

The total amount of the contract has been obligated to Lockheed Martin at the time of award, the Pentagon said.

Israel is set to receive 50 F-35s, which the Israeli air force refers to as Adirs.

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract for foreign military sales in support of the Taiwan F-16 Peace Phoenix Rising program.
