Lockheed Martin achieved a significant milestone with the successful guided flight test of the JAGM-MR (Joint Air-to-Ground Missile - Multi-Role) on December 2, 2023, at the China Lake Test Range in California. This test showcased the remarkable capabilities of the JAGM-MR's tri-mode seeker, emphasizing its proficiency in discriminating between multiple targets.

Joey Drake, the program management director of Air-to-Ground Missile Systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, highlighted the importance of this next-generation weapon system. He emphasized its precision in target discrimination and recognition, offering an innovative security solution for the 21st century.

The key feature of the JAGM-MR that stole the spotlight during this test is its advanced tri-mode seeker. Unlike its predecessor, the JAGM, which employs a dual-mode sensor system, the JAGM-MR integrates a near-infrared (NIR) sensor as a third sensor into its guidance system. This NIR sensor significantly enhances the missile's performance by providing improved target tracking and guidance capabilities across various conditions and target scenarios.

Drake underscored the company's commitment to the future of the JAGM product line, addressing the critical needs of their customers in the face of today's complex threat environment. The tri-mode seeker's precision and defense capabilities are poised to revolutionize target acquisition, even in scenarios involving multiple targets.

Notably, the JAGM-MR has already demonstrated its extended range capability of 16 kilometers in a live fire event last year. This year's guided flight test not only confirmed the maturity of the tri-mode seeker but also showcased its ability to engage targets at an increased stand-off range, further enhancing its operational effectiveness.

Lockheed Martin's JAGM is developed in Orlando, Florida, and manufactured across various facilities, including Dallas, Orlando, and Ocala in Florida, Archibald in Pennsylvania, and Troy in Alabama. With a remarkable track record of producing over 125,000 HELLFIRE and JAGM missiles, the JAGM and its advanced variant, JAGM-MR, stand as the next-generation systems of choice for precision engagement opportunities.
