Sun Light and Power has announced it has begun constructing North America's largest smart-solar array which will be located in the San Francisco/Bay Area.

The 530 kilowatt (kW) array leverages the Tigo Energy MaximizerT Solution to optimize, control and monitor over 1,900 Suntech 270 Watt Power modules. By incorporating the Maximizer solution, this array is expected to produce 6 to 8 percent more power than a standard array and introduce panel-level manageability and monitoring as well as enhanced safety.

"This is the first array of its kind that marks a new era of intelligent solar modules," said Gary Gerber, CEO of Sun Light and Power.

"This is the largest smart array in North America and represents the future of commercial solar. The Tigo Energy Maximizer Solution has proven to be an ideal solution for this project."

Bruce Lymburn of CLIF BAR stated: "Going solar is a natural for CLIF BAR and is part of our corporate sustainability mission; this new installation will provide us with renewable and clean solar energy to help power our new headquarters in Emeryville, California."

"We are excited to have the Tigo Energy Maximizer Solution be part of this project," said James Bickford, Director of North American Sales for Tigo Energy. "This is the first of Tigo Energy projects that are redefining state-of-the-art commercial installations."

The Tigo Energy Maximizer Solution is the first distributed power electronics system to be deployed on a large commercial project. While distributed micro-inverter topologies have been proposed for these installations, reliability and cost have been prohibitive.

Tigo Energy's Maximizer solution has the efficiency (99.5 percent), cost structure and reliability necessary to scale to these project sizes.

Using best-in-class inverter technology along with the Tigo Energy solution will result in unparalleled energy harvest and proactive maintenance, improving the return on investment for commercial customers.
