IAI test fires new surface-to-surface missile
by Richard Tomkins
Washington (UPI) Jun 20, 2017

Israel Aerospace Industries has announced a successful firing trial of its new long-range LORA missile against a pre-planned target.

LORA, or long-range artillery weapon system, is made up of a tactical ground-to-ground missile with a range of nearly 249 miles and a precision range of 32 feet of better.

In the firing trial, part of a conclusive stage for the sale of the system to several customers, LORA was placed on a naval vessel for firing.

IAI said the vessel placement was in compliance with safety requirements for trials of this kind.

The missile was launched from an operational system -- the system consisted of a command trailer and launcher -- and struck its ground target with a high degree of precision, the company said.

"This trial has demonstrated the advanced capabilities of LORA, the weapon system developed by IAI," Joseph Weiss, IAI president and chief executive officer, said in a press release. "LORA complements the range of missile system developed by IAI to round up our fulfillment of our customers' needs."

Additional details of the test were not disclosed.
