HawkEye 360 Inc., a prominent defense technology company specializing in space-based radio frequency (RF) data and analytics, has announced the upcoming spring launch of its clusters 8 and 9. This launch marks the company's first simultaneous placement of two satellite clusters into orbit. The six satellites of clusters 8 and 9 will be launched aboard SpaceX's Bandwagon-1 Rideshare mission from Florida, scheduled for no earlier than April 2024, and are set to occupy a mid-inclination orbit to enhance coverage over key maritime routes.

Rob Rainhart, President of HawkEye 360, highlighted the strategic importance of the launch, stating, "The deployment of Clusters 8 and 9 is a critical step in our ongoing efforts to augment our satellite constellation, directly supporting our global customers' mission requirements." He added, "Our team, in collaboration with Space Flight Laboratory, has introduced major enhancements to our satellites' payloads, significantly expanding our capacity for RF data collection and processing."

The new satellite payloads are designed to increase data collection by up to five times, support larger bandwidths, and facilitate multi-band signal collection. Enhanced high-speed downlink transmitters are expected to quadruple data delivery speeds to Earth, which will enable the delivery of timely, multi-dimensional geospatial insights for strategic decision-making. Furthermore, the positioning of Clusters 8 and 9 will bolster HawkEye 360's initiatives in combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in the Indo-Pacific.

With a current fleet of 23 satellites, the addition of Clusters 8 and 9 will expand HawkEye 360's capabilities to detect, characterize, and locate RF signals from various emitters crucial for communication, navigation, and security operations. For further details, please visit here.
