German ships receiving Indra's satellite communications terminals

Satellite communications terminals are being provided to the German Navy by Spanish electronics firm Indra in partnership with Atlas Elektronik.

Indra said five of its TNX-100 terminals will be manufactured and installed aboard German Braunschweig-class corvettes under the three-year contract, which includes testing, electronic documentation, and crews training services.

"Developed by the company, this terminal has already been implemented in several of Spain's most sophisticated vessels, such as the Juan Carlos I strategic projection ship and the F-100 frigates," the company said. "The system, which has two stabilized 1.5-meter-diameter (4.9 feet) dishes, is capable of simultaneously transmitting and receiving up to 4 Mbps."

Indra in the past has supplied satellite communications systems to the German Navy for F-122 frigates and the Elbe-class replenishment ships. It is also supplying satellite communications terminals for the Germany Navy's U212-class submarines.

The value of the latest contract and its additional details were not disclosed.
