German army orders 62 Airbus military helicopters

The German army has signed a contract for 62 multi-role military helicopters and taken options on another 20, Airbus said Thursday. in what the company said was the largest order for the H145M.

A German defence ministry spokeswoman confirmed the order was signed on Wednesday after being approved by the parliament's budget committee.

The amount of the transaction was not provided, but according to other media could reach 2.7 billion euros ($3.0 billion).

The H145M is the military version of Airbus's light twin-engine H145 helicopter.

It can be equipped to serve as a light attack helicopter or to support special forces troops.
