General Dynamics NASSCO announced construction for a tanker to be built for SEA-Vista Newbuild, a subsidiary of SEACOR Holdings.

The construction formally began after Gregory Doyle of SEACOR pressed a button signaling the cutting of the first piece of steel. Once constructed, the tankers will be 610-feet long. The company says the boats will be the most fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly tankers in the world, offering improved fuel efficiency and the most up-to-date environmental protection features, including the Ballast Water Treatment System and reduced emissions.

General Dynamics NASSCO vice president and general manager Kevin Graney says the tankers represent the future of green shipping technology.

"We are pleased to begin construction on another tanker for our customer and partner, SEA-Vista," Graney said in a statement, "These tankers represent the evolution of new, innovative green ship technology, offering our customer a competitive advantage."

The vessel was designed by by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea. Additional fuel-efficiency features include a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine and optimized hull form. The auxiliary engines will be able to be upgraded with LNG fuel-gas system and tanks.
