Businesses in the United States are increasingly becoming more and more bonded by the the responsibility of having to keep records and reporting requirements, especially with regard to the number of hours worked by their employees. After all, if a company were to make a mistake while processing their employee's payroll they're headed for big financial trouble. In addition to being forced to remit unpaid wages and taxes, employers can face additional financial penalties. Needless to say, the importance of keeping accurate payroll records continues to increase Under President Obama's administration, the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) has maintained a proactive enforcement posture, routinely investigating worker complaints and citing companies that aren't in compliance with federal regulations. In December, the U.S National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) handed down a decision that will affect a broad range of future cases in which back pay is awarded to workers. The board ruled that companies must compensate current or former employees for any extra taxes they are required to pay as a result of receiving wages in a lump sum, rather than spread out over long period. This makes the potential consequences of wage and hour violations more severe, raising the level of importance or consistent record-keeping practices. GPS Software helps organizations keep track of drivers' service hours. Because commercial drivers are subject to specific regulations regarding their hours of service, fleet managers must be especially careful to maintain accurate records. For example, SignalTrack's integrated real time GPS tracking device and terminal provide a rugged and yet affordable platform for recording a drivers hours of service. By tracking company vehicles using GPS devices, fleet managers can ensure that they are correctly logging the amount of time their drivers spend on the road. This will help the organization maintain compliance with state and federal employment regulations and avoid costly legal battles or intrusive action by government regulators.
