Everphoton's HCPV Module Efficiency Reaches Record High

Everphoton Energy recently announced that its High Concentration Photovoltaic (HCPV) module has reached the conversion efficiency of 32.02%, setting the highest record in the worldwide market.

The company's technology breakthrough had been confirmed by the INER (Institute of Nuclear Energy Research), the national research unit for the technology of high concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) under the Executive Yuan, Taiwan.

The module test was conducted indoor by INER with the latest module simulator (Helios 3198) imported from Spain, given the controlled condition of the environment. Such as temperature, humidity, etc. on the Paiwan II module of the company. INER's HCPV testing laboratory is the only one in Asia and it is an UL certified testing laboratory.

Paiwan II is equipped with receivers of "independent heat sink". Such design can conduct the high temperature more efficient.

IIIV solar cells are packaged on the top of "independent heat sink" with high temperature resistant sealing glue which allows higher concentrated sunlight on cell and converts to electricity more efficient. It reversed the conventional design of solar module and makes the whole module become "repairable" with such replaceable "independent heat sink" device.

"Maintenance cost is always a nightmare to system integrator and solar farm operator because of partial efficiency decay or some short-cut cells in a module may need to be replaced with new ones. This is not only a cost issue but also a waste to our eco system," said Eric Chen, CEO and President of the company.

"Even with higher efficiency, the HCPV industry still struggles with higher pricing compare to PV, and this new design is a breakthrough on cutting down the cost of overall solar system. It makes HCPV a price competitive and environmentally friendly solar technology from the system efficiency and product life time aspects.

"We are very happy with the result and it proves that we are on the right track."

The company is now working on the project in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. It is the only company from Taiwan to participate in the said project.
