Continental Electronics gets $11 million Fixed Submarine Broadcast System contract

Continental Electronics Corp. has been awarded an $11 million U.S. Navy contract for work on the Fixed Submarine Broadcast System.

The indefinite delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract covers replacement of elements of the system's very low frequency and low frequency transmitter equipment.

Work will include replacement of helix coils that make up part of the antenna matching network, replacement of the pure water cooling loop systems and two grid variometers that make up part of the transmitter, as well as power supply replacement.

Work will be performed in Texas and has an estimated completion date of August 2019.

Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic is the contracting activity.

The system's very low frequency transmitters provide one-way communications to submarines at speed and depth underwater.

Most of the system's sites were installed in the 1950s and 1960s.
