China-Suzuki venture recalls 10,000 cars: standards agency

Beijing (AFP) Feb 5, 2010
A Chinese joint venture with Japan's Suzuki car maker is to recall over 10,000 of its small Alto models due to fuel filter problems, the state's quality standards agency said on Friday.

The recall applies to 10,326 cars made by Chongqing Chang'an Suzuki Automobile Co. between July 6 last year and January 17 this year.

Improperly made fuel filters pose a risk of leaks and thus raise safety concerns about the cars, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said on its website.

The announcement comes as another Japanese maker, Toyota, has been forced to carry out worldwide recalls, including in China, that have tarnished the reputation of the country's car-making industry.
