The Brazilian Navy has contracted Zentech Incorporated to conduct a comprehensive inspection and evaluation of the hull of the aircraft carrier SPounds o Paulo.

The Texas-headquartered engineering company said the work is part of the Brazilian Navy's upgrade of the carrier and that it will use its asset integrity management solution, ZAIMS, to help in the assessment of hull's seaworthiness.

"The initial work involves corrosion inspection, condition evaluation and detailed analysis of the carrier's hull integrity, including the creation of 3D models, to accurately map the results of the vessel's hull gauging for further detailed analytical work, and ultimately providing recommendations regarding steel replacement," Zentech said. "Beyond Phase One, Zentech will provide ongoing assistance to the Navy through a five-year maintenance support contract."

The work will be primarily be performed by personnel of subsidiary Zentech do Brasil.

Zentech is a marine engineering and naval architecture consulting firm specializing in the offshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries.

The SPounds o Paulo is a Clemenceau-class aircraft carrier commissioned into the French Navy in 1963 and transferred to Brazil in 2000.
