Sweden receives Archer artillery system
Kariskoga, Sweden (UPI) Sep 29, 2015 - BAE Systems reports it has delivered the first production series Archer artillery system to Sweden's Defense Materiel Administration.

The handover occurred on Monday at the company's facility in Kariskoga.

"BAE Systems and FMV have been working very closely to achieve our high-level requirements for the Archer program," said Lena Gillstrom, managing director for Weapon Systems, Sweden, at BAE Systems. "This is an important milestone as we begin the delivery of all systems for our Swedish customer.

"Archer will provide the Swedish armed forces with an advanced artillery system that focuses on the safety of our soldiers."

BAE Systems delivered four pre-serial Archer systems to the Swedish government in 2013.

Archer is a 155mm howitzer, which comes with an M151 Protector remote controlled weapon station mounted on a vehicle. Sweden had contracted BAE Systems for 24 Archers.

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Defense has contracted Saab of Sweden to supply the Austrian Army with a new advanced training system.

The contract, valued at more than $23 million, includes Saab's next generation of soldier training systems with new add-on equipment that will extend the Saab system currently in use and also Austria's existing vehicle and anti-tank training systems.

"We continue to build on the success of our existing relationship with the Austrian army," said Henrik Hojer, head of Saab's Training and Simulation business unit. "For more than 15 years they have been using our system; they are an extremely far-sighted and experienced partner. Saab is delivering training systems to all of the armed forces in Europe and Austria is now able to enhance their multinational training activities."

Deliveries of the system are planned from 2015 to 2018.

Saab's live training systems are used by the United States, Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Estonia and Czech Republic.
