Assembly of Russia's Soyuz Rocket With Earth-Sensing Satellite Completed

The Resurs-P satellite, which has a 5-year service life, carries an imaging payload consisting of high-resolution, hyper-spectral and area survey instruments.

The assembly of Russia's Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket carrying an advanced Resurs-P Earth remote sensing satellite has been completed, Russian Roscosmos state corporation said in a statement on Wednesday.

The rocket is expected to lift off on Saturday at 18:56 GMT.

"Specialists of RCC 'Progress' and enterprises of the rocket and space industry conducted a general assembly of a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with Resurs-P ?3 Earth remote sensing satellite atop," the statement reads.

The Resurs-P satellite, which has a 5-year service life, carries an imaging payload consisting of high-resolution, hyper-spectral and area survey instruments.

The 6,392-kilogram (some 14,000 pounds) satellite is the third of five Resurs-P satellites planned. The first Resurs-P satellite has been in orbit since June 2013, while the second has been launched in late 2014.
