by Stephen Carlson
Washington (UPI) Jul 19, 2017

L3 Technologies has received an order from Airbus for 37 of its MX-15 electro-optical infrared imaging systems for foreign military H225M helicopters, the company announced on Wednesday.

The MX-15 EO/IR systems will be installed in France before the H225Ms are forwarded to their government customers.

"L3 WESCAM is proud to have been chosen to supply its MX-15 systems, as it highlights our role as a trusted global supplier of advanced imaging technologies to the OEM marketplace," Mike Greenley, president of L3 WESCAM, said in a press release.

The MX-15 is designed for search and rescue, medical evacuation, surveillance and other operations. It can be configured with six different mission payloads to operate under a variety of light and weather conditions.

It's sensor package can include a high-definition thermal imager, color low-light optics, daylight spotters, laser rangefinders and a laser illuminator. It can be mounted on fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Airbus HM225M is a medium multi-role helicopter derived from the Eurocopter Caracal. It is capable of tactical troop transport, search-and-rescue, and medical evacuation missions. It is also suitable for transportation of small amounts of cargo and external sling-load missions.
