Air Force orders additional programmable bomb fuzes

The U.S. Air Force has contracted the Aerospace business unit of Kaman Corporation for additional programmable bomb fuzes.

The award for Joint Programmable Fuzes is the exercise of Option 11 of an earlier contract and is worth $28.9 million.

"The JPF is the most functional and reliable bomb fuze in the U.S. military's arsenal," said Greg Steiner, president of Kaman Aerospace Group. "This award for additional fuzes signifies the critical capability and demand for the JPF that only Kaman can satisfy.

"We are pleased to increase our backlog on this program to $131 million solidifying the future of our largest single program through 2016."

Kaman said the order is expected to be fulfilled in 2015 and 2016.

Kaman has been providing its JPF to the Air Force and 26 other countries since 2002. The fuzes, which can be programed in flight, are used on general purpose bombs and guided bombs equipped with JDAM or Paveway guidance kits.

The fuzes will be produced at company facilities in Florida and Connecticut.
