Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace has signed a NOK 12 billion contract to deliver NASAMS and NOMADS air defense systems to the Netherlands. The agreement, finalized on November 21, follows a Dutch government proposal to Parliament on October 14 recommending the systems as part of the CITADEL programme, an integrated air and missile defense initiative.

"By selecting NASAMS and NOMADS the Netherlands will enhance its air defence capabilities with an integrated system that covers short- and medium-range threats. The Netherlands continues to be a strong and integral member of the larger NASAMS user community, and we are pleased to welcome the country as the first international NOMADS user," said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace.

The Netherlands has utilized NASAMS since 2006, and these new systems will enhance and expand its ground-based air defense capabilities. The CITADEL programme will also include the National Manoeuvre Air Defence System (NOMADS), a mobile system equipped with short-range missiles designed to protect land forces in contested environments. Fully integrated with NASAMS and other NATO systems, NOMADS supports both autonomous and networked operations.

The systems are scheduled for delivery beginning in 2028.

NASAMS, the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, was developed jointly by Kongsberg and Raytheon in the US and is the world's first operational network-centric short-to-medium range ground-based air defense system.
