New KVH TracVision M5 And M7 Deliver Stronger Signals For Superior Onboard Satellite TV

Entertainment on boats is about to go farther and faster than it ever has before thanks to the all-new family of TracVision M-series satellite TV systems from KVH Industries, Inc., unveiled this week at the Palm Beach Boat Show. These powerful new marine satellite TV systems offer KVH's exclusive new RingFire antenna technology for the best coverage and reception available in the marine industry today. They bring true "home theatre" quality satellite TV programming onboard, including HDTV.

"The new TracVision M5 and M7, along with the rest of the TracVision M-series of products we've introduced this year, use a groundbreaking new antenna design that extends the range of our products farther offshore than they've ever been able to go before," said Ian Palmer, KVH executive vice president of satellite sales.

"These products radically redefine the relationship between antenna size and how far offshore you'll be able to watch TV, allowing M-series owners to enjoy their satellite TV entertainment when other boats are left with a 'Searching for Satellite' message.

"In fact, our TracVision M-series products outperform many larger, competing systems. When you combine our new RingFire technology with the tracking performance that has made our antennas the industry standard for highly dynamic applications like tuna towers on sport fishing boats, you've got the best line of marine satellite TV antennas available."

Each of the TracVision M-series products uses KVH's proprietary new RingFire technology, a remarkable breakthrough in antenna design. Fusing precisely shaped, tuned parabolic dish antennas with custom-designed, dual-mode feed tubes and uniquely modified LNBs, RingFire technology provides unmatched illumination of the reflector, resulting in signal strengths that are comparable to competitors' larger antennas and up to 30% more powerful than KVH's original, award-winning High-Performance family of satellite TV systems.

"Satellite TV antennas for boats are designed to collect the faint digital signal from a satellite orbiting the earth more than 22,000 miles away," explained Robert Balog, KVH's vice president of engineering. "Their ability to deliver a good picture to your boat's TV depends on how accurately they can point at the orbiting satellite, and the efficiency of the design of the satellite antenna.

Our new M-Series offers the best signal reception of any comparable products we've tested with substantially stronger signal strength than any our previous TracVision products, which were already recognized by dealers as the best in the industry. For the boat owner, this means that a KVH TracVision M-series system will deliver the satellite TV picture in situations where inferior competing products will not, such as farther offshore or in extreme weather."

KVH offers a full range of TracVision antennas for virtually every vessel size and type with the industry's premier products in every antenna class ranging from 14" to 32". The size of antenna selected depends primarily on the satellite signal strength in the area where the boat is used. Since larger vessels tend to travel further offshore or in more remote areas, they tend to have larger antennas.

KVH's product line starts with the 14" "at anchor" TracVision M2 and in-motion M3 products introduced in February at the Miami International Boat Show, and moves up to the 18" TracVision M5, the 24" TracVision M7, and the 32" TracVision M9. Each size product is available with HDTV. KVH also offers a full line of TracPhone satellite communications products with matching domes for the TracVision satellite TV antennas.

Harris Successfully Demonstrates Super HF Antenna Control Unit in Extremely Adverse Sea Conditions

Harris has successfully demonstrated that its advanced Antenna Control Unit (ACU) can help track a satellite and maintain a communications link in extremely adverse sea conditions, including wave heights of more than 45 feet. The demonstration met the performance requirements for the $1 billion next-generation Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) Navy Multiband Terminal program that Harris is pursuing.
