a growing array of onboard satellite communication, navigation and observation systems is changing the needs of rural internet users who will increasingly need mobile broadband connections from the tractor cabin

Guildford - Aug 11, 2003
The British National Space Centre has awarded Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), and Avanti Communications Limited a ¿100,000 study contract to examine the provision of satellite based broadband services.

The study will focus on the provision of cost-effective broadband internet services by satellite for rural areas and developing countries, examining both the ground and space segment aspects, together with the deployment, operations and predicted market uptake.

The team have been chosen to bring the knowledge and practical expertise together necessary to successfully design an end-to-end broadband satellite system, which is both realisable in its cost-effectiveness, and also meets the requirements for providing capacity to rural areas or developing countries.
