Raytheon Awarded Contract for Early Warning Radars Sustainment

Raytheon has been awarded a contract with a potential value of $29 million to provide sustainment support for the Upgraded Early Warning Radar and the Cobra Dane Upgrade. The award was made by Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, the prime contractor for the Ground Based Midcourse Defense segment of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency's Ballistic Missile Defense System.

Under the contract, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) will continue to provide engineering services to ensure the sustainment infrastructure of the Upgraded Early Warning Radars at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., and Fylingdales, U.K., and the Cobra Dane radar at Shemya, Alaska.

"With this award, Raytheon is expanding its role on early warning radars to include whole life services and support," said Pete Franklin, vice president, Raytheon IDS Missile Defense Business Area. "We are committed to providing effective solutions and support to ensure that the missile defense network continues to perform reliably."

Work will be performed at the company's Missile Defense Center in Woburn, Mass. The award includes a basic period valued at $10 million and an option phase valued at $19 million.

The program upgrades the existing Raytheon-developed PAVE PAWS and Ballistic Missile Early Warning Systems by adding missile defense capabilities while retaining missile warning and space surveillance missions. Upgraded Early Warning Radars provide midcourse target detection and tracking for Ground Based Midcourse Defense.

Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon's leader in Joint Battlespace Integration providing affordable, integrated solutions to a broad international and domestic customer base, including the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Homeland Security.
