Washington DC (SPX) Feb 10, 2006 NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, selected two Colorado organizations for grants to support satellite observations of the Earth's atmosphere. NASA solicited proposals contributing to measurements, modeling and data analysis research supported under the Atmospheric Composition focus area of the agency's Earth Science program. These include sub-orbital measurements of atmospheric parameters and constituents that are pertinent to the validation and scientific use of data products from satellite platforms. The maximum grant values are: the University of Denver, Denver: $1,684,538; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Boulder: $1,029,816. The research also supports the Vision for Space Exploration, NASA's long- term plan to return astronauts to the moon and extend exploration to Mars and beyond. Converging Satellites Unlock Sudden Demise Of Hurricane Lili
Atlanta GA (SPX) Feb 09, 2006Using a fleet of NASA and other satellites as well as aircraft and other observations, scientists were able to unlock the secret of Hurricane Lili's unexpected, rapid weakening as she churned toward a Louisiana landfall in 2002. The data from multiple satellites enabled researchers to see dry air move into the storm¿s low levels, partially explaining why Lili weakened rapidly. |
