Houston TX (SPX) Aug 15, 2005 The International Space Station (ISS) has sent special greetings to NASA's Tidbinbilla Deep Space Communication Complex near Canberra to mark its 40th birthday. NASA's deputy administrator Frederick Gregory was guest speaker at the ceremony to celebrate space exploration from the facility. Sending a message of thanks from orbit, 380 kilometres above the Earth, was ISS flight engineer John Phillips "Hello Australia, I'm John Phillips, Expedition Eleven flight engineer, along with my crew mate Commander Sergei Krikalev of Russia. We're talking to you from our home on board the International Space Station," he said. "As Australians across the country prepare to launch the eighth National Science Week, I ask you to reflect on Australia's contribution to extend the reach of science throughout the universe. "Around NASA's history we've enjoyed invaluable support from Australia in the form of spacecraft tracking and communications. In fact we now celebrate 40 years of continuous support from the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex. "On behalf of NASA and our international partners everywhere, a big thank-you to Australia, have a great science week."
