Asia-Wide DTH Service G-SAT Launches On NSS-11

SES New Skies satellite at 108.2 degrees East welcomes additional DTH platform

SES New Skies has concluded a multi-year agreement with Global Broadcasting and Multimedia (GBMI) to provide multiple-transponder capacity on the NSS-11 satellite for their new G-Sat direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service targeting the Asian Region.

GBMI is a Samoa based multinational corporation run by international professional management groups and is notably engaged in satellite wireless transmissions, satellite internet and data applications, DTH TV as well as providing 'head end in the sky' service for its cable operators.

GBMI's G-Sat DTH service currently offers a comprehensive mix of international programs including English, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Japanese and Spanish channels geared to cater to a wide range of viewers.

States Philip Chien, President and CEO of GBMI: "SES New Skies' high-power NSS-11 satellite provides optimal DTH coverage of our target markets, allowing for reception of the G-Star bouquet of channels on small, easy to install dishes.

DTH satellite television is hugely successful in major markets around the world and we are convinced that the G-Sat offer on NSS-11 will meet consumer demand in the region."

Elias Zaccack, Vice President of Sales Asia-Pacific at SES New Skies, concurs: "NSS-11 offers excellent look angles for East Asia.

"Just like NSS-6 at 95 degrees East, the satellite is ideally designed to provide DTH services to several markets throughout Asia-Pacific. We look forward to working with GBMI to successfully develop the satellite DTH market in the Asian region."

From the orbital position of 108.2 degrees East, NSS-11 provides high-powered Ku-band coverage of China, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, South Asia, and parts of the Middle East.

The spacecraft enables a full range of media and data applications, from direct-to-home television broadcasting to government communications and VSAT networks.

NSS-11 is currently home to a number of Chinese-, Indian- and Korean-language television channels and pay-TV platforms, and supports an estimated 40,000 VSAT terminals in India.

SES NEW SKIES has announced that Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) is extending its suite of maritime satellite solutions globally by contracting capacity on SES NEW SKIES' NSS-7, NSS-703 and NSS-5 satellites. Terms of the three-year deal for up to 5MHz of capacity over the three satellites remain confidential.
